In spite of all the Hastings District Council building consent push back, talk of hazards and disaster, and obstruction for a whole year, the draughtsman was able to obtain a consent. Once the consents [two resource consents and building consent] were granted, the builder, Dax, was expert in dealing with the specific demands of the job. It was a 34m2 cantilevered deck with steps down from a second level to a garden. The communication from Dax was very good and he accommodated every wish including my wanting to finish the work on the balustrade, lay the kwila decking and oil the timber. The workmanship was excellent and the code compliance certificate was subsequently issued without any hesitation. I would certainly engage Dax again for a job.

As first time renovators we were pretty nervous about choosing a builder and even deciding what to do to improve our much loved old villa. But the team at IJM were there by our side the whole way and made the whole project a success. We love what they have done. From the start Israel showed a real interest in the house and us and knew his stuff when it came to renovating these types of houses. He put us in touch with a great architect who managed to fix the layout of the dead/ dump-everything area that was part hallway, part storage, part laundry, giving us a new space that now functions perfectly, has loads of storage and opens out to the side deck. And the IJM team built it perfectly. Somehow it looks like it is part of the original house, but now with an actually level floor! The next stage was building a new deck off the front of the house and opening the house with 3m bi-fold doors. Despite the heat of summer Mike and David worked their hardest every day and did an incredible job. Genuinely can not fault their work ethic and lovely people too. They would even go out of their way to do the ‘quiet jobs’ when I had important meetings (wfh). Highly recommend IJM. The team are great people that really seem to care about making their customers happy and doing quality work. And for first time builders/ renovators, having a team that will help you figure out all the details as you go like Mike and David did for us, was absolutely priceless. Thanks IJM!
