I strongly discourage anyone from choosing Stonewood for their house construction. Their communication is abysmal, and they even blacklisted the owner. Additionally, they exhibited significant delays in meeting the project timeline. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

I WOULD NEVER BUILD WITH STONEWOOD HOMES AGAIN. Contracts don't mean anything to them. We had purchased a house and land package with Stonewood homes being the contracted builder of our 3 bedroom 94m² house in Massey. With the S&P signed 05/05/20 and settlement being 26/08/21. The contract stating "Contract type: Fixed price construction contract based on the attached plans and specifications." The consenting process and build dragged due to Covid which we understood. In December 2021 Stonewoods home contacted us about a price increase of 73.6% ! YES, They wanted to just about double our build cost!! This was an obvious shock to us as we had signed a fixed price contract. We asked our lawyer to contact them but they refused to engage via the lawyers and instead wanted us to have a meeting with them in person which we agreed to. In the 3 hour meeting I was given 3 options 1)pay the increase price in order to continue with the build (at the time they had withheld putting through the BC). 2) take them to court. They were kind enough to remind me this would utilise alot of time and money. 3) cancel the contract. (but what about the build?!) During the meeting they weren't able to show me a break down on where the extra costs were coming from. They did say $15k + gst was for project management. After lengthy discussions and alot of negotiating. We settled on a 32% price increase in February 2022, although having signed a "fixed price contract" initially, we felt we had no other option. It was a really tough and stressful time. We had to change banks in order to borrow more money. I had just given birth to my first baby December 2021. We didn't want to sue them as we knew it'd take a toll on us. And quite frankly I think Stonewoods Homes knows this. CCC was finally approved June 2023. After the completion of the build we were asked to fill out a feedback form of the process. We stated all our dissatisfaction with the price increase etc. but we've never heard back from them. So I'm unsure what the feedback form was used for. Moral of the story. Stonewoods doesn't abide by their contract so I would urge everyone to think twice before using their services.
